SNAP has asked PKR not to contest in Dayak-majority constituencies for which it has already named its candidates.SNAP secretary-general Stanley Jugol said this was to avoid a fight between each other in facing Barisan Nasional.

He said the request was made during his meeting here yesterday with PKR vice-president Tian Chua and Sarawak PKR adviser Dominique Ng Kim Ho, who is also Padungan incumbent. “SNAP will stick to the seats for which we have announced our candidates. We have asked PKR to avoid contesting for these seats.

“They promised to bring our request to the PKR headquarters,” Stanley said yesterday. He said their 40-minute meeting was cordial because “Tian Chua and Dominique are my friends”.,SNAP named 27 candidates in two batches and has said that it might contest in another 13 seats.

The 50-year-old Dayak-based party, which produced Sarawak’s first chief minister in the late Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan, has offered its symbol to PKR candidates to unite the Dayaks. SNAP is giving way to Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian and its election director Nicholas Bawin to contest for the Batang Ai and Ba’Kelalan seats respectively, both Dayak-majority seats, as they stand a good chance of beating Barisan there.
